Conservative dentistry

Conservative dentistry

Conservative dentistry is the technique by which oral problems are treated avoiding the removal of damaged parts.

It is used to restore areas damaged by decay and other conditions, trauma or malformations in the teeth.

Damaged tissue is treated without affecting the rest of the tooth or the other teeth, by sealing fissures, simple or complex fillings, reconstructions, and endodontics. In cases where the depth of the lesion is very important, a filling is not enough, and a root canal procedure is performed.

1.- Caries

Caries is an infectious disease characterized by the destruction of hard tissues of the tooth as a result of a demineralization caused by bacterial plaque.

Dental caries causes a lesion in the hard tissue of the tooth, affecting first the enamel and then the dentin, which can even affect the inner area (pulp chamber) and cause an infection and inflammation (pulpitis). This infection would lead to tooth devitalization or even its loss.

Factors involved in the appearance of caries:

  • Bacteria (bacterial plaque)
  • Morphology, composition and genetic factors of the tooth
  • Diet (sugars consumption)
  • Time

2.- Endodontics

Endodontics is a treatment consisting in eliminating the tooth pulp tissue and replacing it by an inorganic filling that guarantees the internal tightness of the tooth and restores its chewing and aesthetic function.

Endodontics is the inmediate and definitive solution to the painful discomfort caused by the involvement of the nerve. Come to the Sabatés Dental Clinic and do not lose your tooth.

Endodontic treatment is performed with local anesthesia. You will not feel any pain during the treatment. In some cases, at the end of the anesthesia, there is a slight sensation of discomfort in the area, which disappears after 4 or 5 days. To reduce these minor discomforts we prescribe analgesics and anti-inflammatories.

Preventive dentistry is also part of conservative dentistry, and it reduces the need for dental treatment in the medium and long term.

Preventive dentistry not only allows us to detect diseases of the mouth in early stages, but we can also detect other diseases throughout the body. Prevention must start with adequate daily oral hygiene, complemented by a regular visit to the dentist a couple of times a year. A preventive visit to the dentist protects your oral health.
